#Sepang8h 2019: Factory BMW replaces Puffe by WorldSBK rider Reiterberger

The official BMW Motorrad Motorsport World Endurance team has a new line up for the 8 hours of Sepang: Markus Reiterberger will jump in to partner Ilya Mikhalchik and Kenny Foray on the Double-R.

With WorldSBK rider Markus Reiterberger coming into the squad, Julian Puffe – this year’s runner-up in the German IDM Superbike behind team mate Mikhalchik – has lost his place in Werner Daemen’s Endurance squad.

Reiterberger joins the team for Sepang as he has a fond knowledge of the track and has won three IDM Superbike titles for Daemen’s team. He himself lost his ride in the WorldSBK for the 2020 season to Eugene Laverty who finished this year’s Superbike season on place behind the German after fighting multiple injuries throughout the season.

Reiterberger is no stranger to the Endurance scene, holding the record of the one – and so far only – overall Pole Position for a Superstock bike at the 8hours of Germany and having stood on the overall podium at the Bol d’Or after 24 hours of racing, both successes coming with Rico Penzkofers “Penz13” team.

“I want to say a huge ‘Thank you’ to Werner and his team for giving me the opportunity to ride at Sepang, a race I am looking very forward to,” Reiterberger said.

“It is a mega track and back in 2016 it was one of my best outing in the World Superbikes – I was in fourth position until the end but then had to retire due to an technical issue.”

“My team mates are both very stong and we will give our everything to get a strong result.”

Prior to the race, the BMW Motorrad Motosport Endurance team will have a further test at the very same track of Sepang.
